Barcelona are scouting Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong at the African Cup of Nations 2025, reports Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Cameroonian has emerged as a potential candidate to succeed Robert Lewandowski at Barca next summer.
Lewandowski’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has received offers from Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer clubs.
Although the Polish striker is willing to take a huge pay cut and accept a second-string role, Barca are concerned about his fitness struggles, which have impacted his consistency this season.
The 37-year-old has bagged eight goals and two assists in 13 games, while he is yet to open his account in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Ferran Torres’ increasing influence has pushed Lewandowski down the pecking order.
The Spaniard has become Hansi Flick’s most trusted attacker, netting 13 goals and an assist in all competitions.
Barca have prioritised signing a top-class No.9 next summer, irrespective of Lewandowski’s future.
Etta Eyong has been on the Catalan club’s radar for a while. They even explored the possibility of signing him last summer, before he moved from Villarreal to Levante.
The 22-year-old has caught the attention with his impressive form, netting six goals and three assists in La Liga this season.
He also scored the only goal in Cameroon’s win against Gabon in the AFCON 2025 opener.
Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on him, but his desire to play for Barca gives the La Liga champions a definitive edge.
Eyong is a cost-effective option among the list of high-profile targets on Barca’s wish list.
He is currently valued at €15 million, but his price could increase if he excels at AFCON 2025 and maintains his fine form for Levante in the second half of the season.
