Barcelona are mulling over a move for Inter Milan and Juventus linked Lille striker Jonathan David next summer.
This according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, via FCInterNews. They report that the Canadian is one of the Blaugranas’ main targets in the striker position.
One thing that is virtually certain is that David will be on the move next summer.
The 24-year-old’s contract with Lille runs out at the end of next June.
And while Lille have offered David a new deal, it looks very clear that he will not be extending with the Ligue 1 side.
David will instead have his pick of clubs on a free transfer next summer.
There are quite a few suitors for David. This is little surprise considering the Canadian’s form since joining Lille.
David has scored prolifically for the French side. He has also scored big goals in the Champions League, netting against Real Madrid and Juventus this campaign – and twice against Atletico Madrid.
David had won the Ligue 1 title with Lille during the 2020-21 season.
There is plenty of transfer interest in David from Serie A.
Inter’s propensity for big name free transfer signings is well-established. And they are likely to have a vacancy in attack next summer.
Meanwhile, Juventus reportedly see David as one of their main potential targets to replace Dusan Vlahovic should the former Fiorentina striker be on his way out next summer.
But the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri could face competition from Spain, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The outlet anticipate that Barcelona see the Canadian as a major target in attack.
This could either be as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski if the Pole leaves at the end of this season. But even if Lewandowski stays the Catalan giants could move.
The fact that David is available on a free transfer would make him an enticing opportunity for Barcelona.
However, MD note, there is also the fact that the Canadian will demand a significant sign-on bonus.
Therefore, Barcelona are far from completely convinced that going after David will be the right move.
