Despite the highs and the lows the season had in store for Barcelona this term, Joan Garcia has been one of the biggest positives for the club.
The new signing from Espanyol stepped into the role of Barça’s new number one with aplomb and the club have never had to look elsewhere.
Now, as we approach the business end of the season, Garcia looks all set to cap off his maiden campaign at Barça by winning the prestigious Zamora trophy.
Garcia is on the verge of officially entering the running for the Zamora Trophy, the award given to the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded per game in La Liga.
The regulations require a minimum of 28 appearances to qualify, and Garcia has played 25 matches so far.

His inclusion in the official standings is therefore imminent, and when it arrives, he will enter at the top of the table.
His numbers this season have been exceptional, with 19 goals conceded, 12 clean sheets, and a goals-per-game average of 0.76, the best figure in the entire division.
For context, Thibaut Courtois sits second in the rankings with an average of 0.86, while Jan Oblak, who has also not yet reached the qualifying threshold, carries an average of 0.96.
Among those currently in contention, Garcia’s figures place him comfortably clear of the field. Courtois leads among those who have met the minimum appearances, followed by David Soria of Getafe at 1.03 and Luiz Junior of Villarreal at 1.07.
With seven league matches remaining, Garcia needs only to maintain his current level to make the Zamora Trophy his own.
Barcelona, though, have their task cut out as far as the second goalkeeping position is concerned, with the majority of the loaned out players struggling.
