Barcelona are pushing ahead with plans to make Karim Adeyemi their second signing of the summer transfer window. Personal terms are already in place with the 24-year-old, and although Borussia Dortmund turned down their opening offer, the Catalans are nowhere near ready to throw in the towel.
€20m was the value of Barcelona’s opening offer, which was quickly rejected by Dortmund as they value their player closer to €40m. However, they are unlikely to be able to receive this due to Adeyemi having less than a year remaining on his contract, which he has no intention of renewing because he wants to move to Catalonia.
Barcelona can take advantage of this, and it’s why they believe €30m will be enough to get a deal done. As per Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, the club’s second offer is about to be sent to Dortmund, with a total package of €30m (€20m fixed plus €10m in add-ons) ready to be tabled.
Berger has also reported that Barcelona do not intend to exceed €30m, as they do not believe Adeyemi is worth more than that, given he’s in the final year of a contract that he has no intention of renewing. In essence, there will not be another offer after the one they are about to submit, so it will be interesting to see whether it is enough for Dortmund to give the green light.
On paper, Adeyemi will be a smart signing by Barcelona and Hansi Flick, who has been the driving force behind the club’s interest. He would be a very solid backup for Lamine Yamal, while he can also play on the left and through the middle if needed – and in the regards to the latter, he may be if Ferran Torres is sold, which is someone that could surprisingly happen.
