Earlier today, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta inaugurated the new headquarters of the Penya 1900 of Terrassa, and was accompanied by injured playmaker Dani Olmo at the event.

During the appearance, the Barça chief spoke about the team’s situation as well as addressing the repeated attacks from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez at the club over the Negreira case.

Laporta fires a warning

Following Perez’s latest accusations directed at Barcelona earlier in the week, Laporta hit out, stating that those at Real Madrid cannot stand the Blaugrana’s joy and talk about the Catalans to hide their own shortcomings.

“What I wanted to tell you is that we have managed to turn the situation around, that the institution is strong, and that joy has returned to Barcelona. It seems that some people can’t stand it,” he began, provoking laughter from some of those present.

“Why are you laughing so sarcastically? What have you caught on to? Who was I referring to? Here in Terrassa, you are very clever. It seems they can’t stand it,” he added.

Referring to recent messages coming from the Spanish capital club, Laporta continued:

“Joy has returned to Barça fans, and others, to divert attention from their shortcomings, have to talk only about Barça. I’ll have time to talk about this later. Not here and now, but more calmly, because I think it’s getting out of hand.”

Laporta also stressed that: “Loving Barça means defending the club against everything and everyone. And defending it above all else. And defending Barça against all the adversities that arise. There will be many more.

“But here you have to be strong, and you have to be alive to defend Barça above all else. Being aware that we do this to maintain this: a strong Barça, a living Barça.

“An entity, an institution with more than 126 years of history committed to sport, democracy, freedoms, Catalonia and its Catalan identity.”

The Barcelona president closed his speech by focusing on the team’s performance, saying:

“What we have to do is think constantly about Barça and try to keep up this momentum because we are in first place and four points ahead of the second-place team.”

Concluding, Laporta also had words of praise for Dani Olmo, as he remarked: “He’s special. Very good, one of our own, a great person.

“They didn’t want us to register him, but here he is. I hope that with the skill he has on his right foot, he’ll help us win the Champions League.”
