Leading members of the first-team ranks at Spanish football’s two biggest clubs secured for themselves spots in the World Cup Team of the Group stage, based on statistics.
From Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, Pau Cubarsí gets the nod.
Youngster Cubarsí has been in nothing short of exceptional form in North America this summer, shining from his berth at the heart of Spain’s backline. The 19-year-old continues to showcase leadership qualities befitting a player far beyond his years, with his passing percentage also standing as one of the very best at the World Cup.
Turning focus towards Real Madrid, first up comes Jude Bellingham.
Midfielder Bellingham is fresh off another starring performance for England on Saturday night, playing a direct hand in both goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Panama. This made it three goal contributions in three World Cup outings to date, the highlight of consistently impressive all-round performances.
And rounding out the Clásico representation in the Team of the Groups is Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr.
Attacker Vinícius has emerged as Brazil’s star performer thus far this summer, with four goals and an assist to his name in three appearances. His excellence is aptly summed up in the fact that Vinícius secured Man of the Match honours in all three of the Seleção’s fixtures.
