Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has on Sunday dropped something of a bombshell announcement across his social media channels.
This comes amid confirmation that the veteran frontman has, for the time being, definitively withdrawn from international duty.
Lewandowski for his part sparked widespread chatter across Poland late last month, in turning down a call-up for the country’s latest round of fixtures.
Despite the 36-year-old having cited mental and physical fatigue as being behind his decision, Lewandowski was quickly targeted and singled out for criticism on the part of the Polish media.
And as alluded to above, on Sunday, such pressure, alongside an evident disconnect with manager Michał Probierz, has taken its toll.
Taking to his official ‘X’ account, Lewandowski announced that he will no longer be available to Poland, so long as headmaster Probierz is in charge:
‘Considering the circumstances and the loss of trust in the coach of the Polish National Team, I decided to resign from playing in the Polish National Team while he is the coach. I hope that I will be able to play for the best fans in the world again.’
