Barcelona’s No. 9 position has been quite the merry-go-round this season.

In a season that was supposed to see the smooth transition from Robert Lewandowski to Ferran Torres, it was the latter who emerged as the undisputed leader of the Barcelona frontline in the early parts of the campaign.

However, Lewandowski never gave up, and since returning to full fitness, he racked up quite a few goals. In fact, the two players are now level with eight goals scored by each in La Liga.

While Hansi Flick has opted for Lewandowski over Ferran Torres in recent matches, the Pole may soon lose his position.

Ferran pushing for more starts

As reported by AS, Lewandowski has shown weakness in recent matches and has yet to score in any of the last three games, which could give Ferran an edge in the battle for the starting spot.

Lewandowski has also missed a couple of penalties while he has struggled to properly connect with the team, which certainly doesn’t help the cause for the Polish international.

Against Atletico Madrid, Lewandowski only had one shot on goal and had the fewest touches among any Barcelona attacker.

The report suggests this could see Ferran once again starting matches for Barcelona in the coming weeks.

The Spaniard, after missing a glaring chance against Chelsea, has redeemed himself with goals in the game against Atletico Madrid, while he also tends to offer more in terms of pressing from the front.

But on a broader scheme of things, the competition between Ferran and Lewandowski is healthy for the team, as both players look to strive for the best in order to retain their place in the starting eleven.

With key matches coming up before the Christmas break, Barcelona would expect both players to be at the top of their game, as the Catalans look to end the season on a positive note.
