A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona sent an indirect message to manager Hansi Flick on Saturday evening.

This came by way of his performance against Las Palmas.

Barcelona are of course currently locked in action, in a La Liga meeting with relegation-battling Las Palmas.

As things stand late in proceedings in Gran Canaria, the Blaugrana find themselves in possession of a slender advantage, leading by a goal to nil.

And it is Dani Olmo who is currently on course to prove himself match-winner.

Introduced off the bench at half-time, the summer arrival in Catalunya’s capital conjured up a moment of sheer quality to slot home off the underside of the crossbar just beyond the hour mark.

And yet, Olmo’s influence has been so much more than simply his seventh goal of the season to date.

The 26-year-old, after replacing Fermín López, completely changed the flow of the clash, putting Barcelona on the front foot and adding such much-needed impetus through the middle.

Olmo’s ability on the half turn, as well as his delicate touches in and around the penalty area, proved precisely what his side needed this evening.

And as much only served in reiterating the Spanish international’s long-standing message to boss Hansi Flick: ‘When fit, I should be a starter’.
