A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona turned down a mind-boggling financial proposal from Saudi Arabia last summer.
The player in question? Robert Lewandowski.
Frontman Lewandowski is for his part of course fresh off a hugely productive campaign in Barcelona’s colours last time out.
Despite his advancing years, the Pole was on target to the tune of a hefty 42 goals across all competitions, key to the Blaugrana’s domestic treble.
As alluded to above, though, had Lewandowski opted for money over sporting merit, things could have been altogether different for club and player alike in 2024/25…
Pini Zahavi, the former Bayern Munich man’s agent, this week sat down for an interview with newspaper ‘Fakt’.
And during as much, in quotes relaid by Diario Sport, Zahavi revealed the details of a staggering offer put before Lewandowski in the summer of 2024:
“I can explain that a year ago he received a proposal from Saudi Arabia offering him 100 million euros per season. Seasonally! And he didn’t want to go. He wanted to fight for important titles. He wanted to fight for La Liga and the Champions League with Barça and he almost won all these titles.”
