A surprising report has sparked serious debate in Spanish football, as Florentino Perez is said to have identified Pedri as his ideal midfield signing for Real Madrid.
The claim, revealed on Radio MARCA, has quickly gained attention not because of its likelihood, but because of how extraordinary such a move would be, given the fierce rivalry between Madrid and FC Barcelona.
The discussion emerged during a live segment featuring journalist Roberto Gomez, who introduced the idea while analysing Real Madrid’s need to reinforce their midfield following the departures of legends like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
“The player Real Madrid’s president would like to sign is a midfielder… and his name is Pedri,” he said, which sparked a debate.
Fellow journalist Raul Varela was quick to point out the near-impossible nature of the move, stating the historical and sporting barriers between the two clubs.
“But they won’t be able to sign him,” the host noted, to which Gomez replied, leaving the door open with a touch of irony,
“I don’t know… there’s never been a Barcelona player who’s signed with Real Madrid,” although players such as Luis Figo, Miquel Soler and Luis Milla, among others, have switched teams in the past.

Despite the obvious complications, Gomez reiterated that the idea comes from admiration rather than concrete planning.
“The player Florentino Perez and Real Madrid would like is Pedri,” he said.
However, even he acknowledged that the gap between desire and reality is significant, especially considering Pedri’s importance at Barcelona and his contractual situation.
“It’s one thing what you like, and another what you can actually do,” he joked during his remarks.
As such, Real Madrid want to refresh their midfield with younger, technically gifted players and Pedri naturally fits that profile.
From Barcelona’s perspective, though, the situation is pretty clear. Pedri is the cornerstone of the club’s present and future project.
This means the idea of allowing him to join their biggest rivals is, quite simply, unthinkable.
