While contemplating the possibility of signing a new defender in January, FC Barcelona are also working on a deal for young striker Hamza Abdelkarim.
The 17-year-old Al Ahly striker has emerged as a key target, with an eye on the reserve team, Barça Atletic, who are struggling with injuries in the No. 9 position.
Barcelona, thus, have been negotiating with Al Ahly over a January move, but there has been no breakthrough so far.
But, as has been reported already, Hamza Abdelkarim has his heart set on a transfer to Barcelona in January.
In fact, Erem (h/t SPORT) reports that the player is not willing to accept any other offer from European football, effectively blocking alternative options.
Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Lyon have also shown interest in his services, but the teenage forward’s priority is clear, and he does not intend to change course.
Furthermore, it is claimed that the 17-year-old has reached an agreement with Barcelona for three and a half seasons, pending an agreement between the two clubs.
Given the situation, Barcelona hope to finalise the signing of Abdelkarim during the coming week so that the player can join in the first days of January.

Negotiations remain active and ongoing, and the final decision now lies with the president of his club, Al Ahly, Mahmoud El Khatib, who is currently in Morocco following the Africa Cup of Nations.
Barcelona are confident that their second financial proposal will eventually be accepted, as is the player himself, who is pushing to be able to play for the Blaugrana reserve side.
As per the report, Al Ahly initially also rejected Barcelona’s second proposal, which consisted of a free six-month loan with an option to buy for a fixed fee of €1.25 million, plus variables that could rise to €4 million depending on his performance.
In addition, Al Ahly would retain 10 per cent of any future transfer fee for the Egyptian youth international.
Al Ahly, though, believe the proposal is financially low if the player ends up breaking through at Barcelona, and they are seeking a higher fixed amount and higher bonuses with more achievable parameters.
At Barcelona, they are firm that this is their final offer, as Hamza Abdelkarim has not yet established himself in Al Ahly’s first team, and they do not wish to take excessive risks.
Even so, relations between the two clubs are good, and Barcelona are confident of reaching an agreement in the coming days.
