Marc-Andre ter Stegen is expected to travel to Amsterdam imminently as the final administrative details surrounding his loan move to AFC Ajax are close to being completed.

After weeks of negotiations, Ter Stegen’s departure from Barcelona appears to be entering its final stage.

Although Barcelona and Ajax reached an agreement several days ago, a number of bureaucratic and tax-related issues delayed the completion of the deal.

As reported, though, Ter Stegen is now expected to travel to Amsterdam shortly to complete the remaining formalities before officially joining Ajax with the problems resolved.

Barcelona to cover most of his salary

Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona will continue paying the majority of Ter Stegen’s wages throughout the loan spell.

Previous reports even suggested that Ajax would only cover 10% of the salary, although the number is still unclear.

Nonetheless, It means that the club will not get a major relief on the salary space-front with the out-of-favour captain’s departure.

The arrangement was necessary and allows the goalkeeper to regain regular playing time during an important stage of his career, while giving Ajax and Michel a player they have wanted to sign for well over a year.

Second consecutive loan

The move will be Ter Stegen’s second successive loan spell after he spent the second half of the season away at Girona.

That loan campaign, however, was heavily disrupted by a serious injury suffered early into his tenure, preventing him from establishing himself.

Ajax manager Michel, who previously coached Girona, has long admired the German goalkeeper for his leadership, composure, distribution and experience at the highest level.

Barring any unexpected developments, he will have the opportunity to work with the veteran star again.

Continuing to train

Despite the imminent move, Ter Stegen has continued training normally with Barcelona.

On Friday he completed two training sessions at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper after missing Thursday’s workout, when academy goalkeeper Iker Rodriguez was called in to train with the first team. He was seen at the training facilities on Saturday too.

While airport sources indicate that no immediate flight has yet been scheduled, Ter Stegen’s departure is anticipated soon and his move to the Dutch club is now expected to become official in the coming days.
