Barcelona are deep into summer planning, with a centre-back targeted and a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski seen as a key objective. Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni is a leading option and the outcome of that chase could shape further moves.
Sport reports that if Bastoni signs, a domino effect would follow, with Barcelona to pursue departures for Andreas Christensen and Barca Atletic defender Alvaro Cortes.
News in January that the injury-prone Dane had been offered a new deal surprised many. He has a proposal on reduced terms and is yet to accept as he weighs his options. If he does not sign, he will leave on a free.
Cortes, a Spain under-21 international who arrived from Real Zaragoza in 2024, has become a leader at the back and has made several senior squads. Under Juliano Belletti he has been a regular and was rewarded with a contract to 2028.
The arrival of Bastoni would likely block his route to the first team. With Juwensley Onstein joining from KRC Genk in January, Barcelona already appear to have cover if Cortes departs.
