Barcelona are unlikely to pursue a move for former winger Ez Abde this summer despite growing interest in the player across Europe, according to a fresh report from SPORT.

The Moroccan attacker has continued attracting attention following another strong campaign with Real Betis, but Barcelona do not currently view him as a transfer priority ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Although Barcelona still retain 20% of Abde’s rights following his departure to Betis, the report claims the club is not planning to bring the winger back to Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana hierarchy believes the operation would only have been considered under very favourable financial conditions.

What’s the story?

According to the report, Barcelona internally valued a possible deal at no more than €30 million, which would have meant paying around €24 million for 80% of the player’s rights.

However, that scenario now appears unrealistic because Abde’s market value continues to rise due to growing Premier League interest.

As things stand, Barcelona are more interested in benefiting financially from a future sale rather than pursuing a return for the winger themselves.

In that context, Newcastle United recently sent a representative to gather information on Abde’s situation.

The Premier League side is assessing attacking alternatives amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Anthony Gordon.

At the same time, Aston Villa have also shown interest in the Moroccan international ahead of the summer transfer window.

In this scenario, Real Betis are open to selling the winger, aiming to secure around €40 million.

However, Betis may delay any final decision until after the World Cup, believing the player’s value could increase even further depending on his performances on the international stage with Morocco.

On the other hand, Barcelona are also closely monitoring the situation because any transfer would directly benefit them financially through the 20% sell-on clause they still possess.
