Robert Lewandowski faces a key start to 2026 in his professional career. At 37 years of age, the Polish striker is in his fourth season at FC Barcelona, with a major challenge ahead: trying to convince the sporting management to extend his contract.
Lewandowski will be out of contract from 30 June, meaning that from 1 January he is free to negotiate with any other club.
However, according to SPORT, his wish is to continue at Barcelona and regain the prominence he has lost this season following the emergence of Ferran Torres as the central striker.
As such, Lewandowski now has six months left to convince Barcelona to offer him an extension even as he attracts interest from the MLS and Saudi Arabia.
So far this term, the veteran has scored eight goals in La Liga, although he has not found the net for a month. Physical issues are becoming more frequent for him, and Hansi Flick is trying to manage the situation carefully.

With the second half of the season set to get underway soon, Flick hopes that Lewandowski will step up in these matches and make the difference.
Otherwise, his influence on the team would diminish further, and his departure from the club would become a much firmer consideration.
Given his situation, Lewandowski does not lack offers, particularly from leagues of a lower sporting level but with a very significant financial component.
There has once again been talk of interest from Saudi Arabia in signing him for one of its teams, as well as from Major League Soccer (MLS), with Chicago Fire even holding talks with him.
Lewandowski’s future is set to have a strong impact on the club’s plans for the summer.
If he does not renew and leaves, Barcelona would need to look for another central striker, as Ferran Torres alone would not be enough to face another demanding season.
For now, however, nothing is set in stone and the situation remains fluid.
