Barcelona are planning to spend big this summer, but in order to do so, sales will be absolutely essential. They want to move on the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Marc Casado, while it is not ruled out that one or two prominent defender also depart.

Alejandro Balde is a player whose future has constantly been scrutinised in recent weeks, especially as Barcelona push to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis. But he’s not the only full-back that has chances to be sold, with Jules Kounde’s future at the Spotify Camp Nou now also under the microscope ahead of the summer transfer window opening next week.

According to Sport, Kounde’s name has regularly been mentioned during market conversations held by sporting director Deco in recent months. The 27-year-old, who’s currently with France at the World Cup, continues to attract interest from clubs across Europe, which gives Barcelona a decision to make ahead of the transfer window opening.

The 2025-26 season was a very disappointing one for Kounde, who struggled to get anywhere close to his best form on a consistent basis. Because of this, the report has noted that Barcelona no longer consider him to be non-transferable, and as such, offers that come in during the summer will be studied by Deco and co.

Should Barcelona cash in on Kounde?

Kounde is said to be only thinking about staying at Barcelona, but the club will have the final say on whether he stays. If a good offer arrives, they could be tempted to sell – and if so, only at this point would they look to sign a right-back, with no plans for someone to come in beforehand.

At the moment, the expectation is that Kounde will remain a Barcelona player for at least one more season, although things could change during the time in which the summer transfer window is open for business. It could be smart to cash in now, as there is no guarantee that he will get back to his best.
