Barcelona could be preparing for a major squad overhaul in the summer of 2025, as reports from Fichajes suggest that the club is seriously considering reigniting its interest in Bruno Guimaraes.
However, this potential move hinges on the departure of Frenkie de Jong, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
The Dutch midfielder has long been a key figure in Barcelona’s squad, and his role has become even more significant under Hansi Flick.
Despite this, the club has not entirely ruled out the possibility of his exit, especially if a contract renewal cannot be agreed upon.
If De Jong does leave at the end of the season, Barcelona will be in the market for a high-quality replacement, and Guimaraes is seen as a perfect fit for the team’s tactical setup.
The Brazilian midfielder possesses all the attributes required to thrive at Barcelona, with his ability to regain possession and dictate play making him an ideal candidate to reinforce the midfield.

Barcelona’s interest in Guimaraes is not new. The club has been closely monitoring his performances at Newcastle United for some time now.
However, up until this point, their transfer priorities have been focused on strengthening other areas of the squad, particularly in defence and attack.
Now, with the possibility of De Jong’s exit looming, Barcelona could shift its attention towards securing the Brazilian’s signature.
The transfer scenario could further tilt in Barcelona’s favour if Newcastle United fail to secure a Champions League spot for the following season.
Such a setback could make it difficult for the English club to retain their star midfielder, creating an opening for Barcelona to make a move.
That being said, Newcastle are in a strong financial position and will not make Guimaraes’ departure easy.
However, the prospect of playing for a club of Barcelona’s stature, with its rich history and competitive ambitions, could be a decisive factor in persuading the Brazilian to make the switch to La Liga.
