Barcelona star Lamine Yamal on Sunday moved a step closer to a goalscoring record currently held by Real Madrid frontman Kylian Mbappé.

This comes after the former found the net for the latest occasion in Barcelona’s meeting with Elche.

Inside the opening 10 minutes of proceedings this evening, wide-man Lamine put Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana in front at Montjuïc.

Cutting inside onto his trusty left foot inside the Elche penalty area, the youngster went on to pick out the far corner with aplomb.

And in the process, Lamine took another step towards Kylian Mbappé in the European goalscoring charts.

As revealed by statisticians Opta:

‘Lamine Yamal has scored 17 goals in 80 LaLiga appearances. Only Kylian Mbappé (23) has scored more goals before turning 19 in Europe’s top five leagues in the 21st century.’

Ferran Torres quickly doubled Barca’s lead on the back of Lamine’s opener on Sunday, but Elche have since pulled one back, refusing to go down without a fight.
