Sky Sport Italia claims Nicolò Barella will return to action after the international break in October as Inter confirm their midfield star has suffered a rectus femoris strain.

Barella missed an Inter training session on Tuesday morning and underwent medical tests due to muscle problems.

The Nerazzurri have just released a fitness update on the Italian star through their official website: “Nicolò Barella underwent clinical examinations this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. The Nerazzurri midfielder has a strain in the rectus femoris of his right thigh. His condition will be reassessed next week,” the defending Serie A champions said.

According to Sky Sport Italia, this means Barella will miss Inter’s next three games against Udinese, FK Crvena Zvezda and Torino, returning to action after the international break.

The Italian midfielder was subbed off in the second half of Inter’s 2-1 loss to Milan on Sunday night.

An EURO 2020 winner with the Italy national team, the ex-Cagliari midfielder has ten goals in 57 international appearances with the Azzurri but missed the most recent games against France and Israel in September to undergo a pre-arranged nose surgery.

Barella’s Inter contract runs out in June 2029.
