Basel are exploring a reunion with Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, who was their first-choice between 2018 and 2020 before a €9 million move to Gladbach.

Blick reports that Basel have held talks with the 32-year-old, who is under contract at Gladbach until 2027, that an announcement is expected in the coming weeks, and that sporting director Daniel Stucki is under pressure and seeking a positive headline.

Omlin has slipped behind Moritz Nicolas in the pecking order at Borussia, and the club would be happy to take his salary off the books.

He is currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen after a January move prompted by Mark Flekken’s long-term injury. Even so, Janis Blaswich has been preferred in Flekken’s absence.

If Omlin does return, he is expected to replace 38-year-old Marwin Hitz, formerly of Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund.
