Saturday night under the Red Bull Arena floodlights! RB Leipzig host promoted side 1. FC Köln this weekend at 18:30 CEST.

The Red Bulls have an impressive record against promoted teams in the top flight, while Christoph Baumgartner has enjoyed of plenty of success against our next opponents in the past. We also look at why we can't underestimate the Billy Goats, who have scored several late goals already in 2025/26.

Find out below why we can win on Saturday.

1) Unbeaten run

RB Leipzig have never lost a Bundesliga game against a promoted side, remaining unbeaten in all 36 matches to date (W31, D5) - a league record. However, the last match against a promoted team, Holstein Kiel (who were relegated last season), saw RBL draw 1-1. This ended the club's run of nine consecutive home wins against promoted sides.

Nonetheless, the overall record is still remarkable and one we hope is extended this Saturday!

2) A great record against Köln

We also have a fantastic record against Effzeh, losing just two of our 14 meetings with them to date (W7, D5). We dominated our last two fixtures against Köln, back in the 2023/24 season, winning 6-0 win at home and 5-1 at the RheinEnergieSTADION.

RB Leipzig have scored an average of 2.4 goals per Bundesliga game against Köln, more than against any other team currently in the top flight.

3) Baumgartner's favourite opponents

Christoph Baumgartner generally enjoys playing against 1. FC Köln. The Austrian has had a hand in seven goals in the Bundesliga against the Billy Goats (5 goals, 2 assists), more than against any other team in the top flight.

The attacking midfielder will be hoping to add to his goal against Heidenheim this weekend.

4) A chance to equal a club record

Ole Werner's team go into this game with some confidence after two consecutive wins without conceding. A third victory in a row without letting in a single goal would equal RBL's club record.

5) A look at Köln

Newly-promoted 1. FC Köln have started the season brilliantly, picking up seven points from their first three games. In their top-flight history, the Billy Goats have only ever recorded a better start once (in the 1990s). Incredibly, Effzeh have also scored five goals in injury time. The most recent one, Jakub Kaminski's equaliser away at VfL Wolfsburg last time out, came in the 104th minute, making it the latest goal in league history (since data collection began).

The Red Bulls will definitely have to keep an eye on Marius Bülter. The summer signing has been directly involved in four goals already this term (2 goals, 2 assists), the most of any Effzeh player. 19-year-old Said El Mala has also impressed at the start of the new campaign. The Germany U21 international has had a hand in a goal in consecutive Bundesliga games - in Köln's history, only the legendary Lukas Podolski did so at a younger age.
