Bayern Munich have added Chelsea defender Renato Veiga to their summer shortlist of centre-back options.

The Bundesliga champions are keen to bring in additional defensive depth, amid Eric Dier’s exit and doubts surrounding the future of Kim Min-jae.

Veiga is a player of interest with the 21-year-old one of four options under consideration, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal international signed for Chelsea from FC Basel last summer but failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

He made one Premier League start and totalled just 177 minutes of league action before being allowed to leave on loan. Veiga spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, where he made 13 appearances in Serie A.

Chelsea are now open to letting the defender leave on a permanent basis amid interest from Germany.

The West Londoners currently have 31 first-team players following the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton, while both Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian will link up with Chelsea this summer. There are a further 13 senior players, including Veiga, under contract after loan spells away from the club last season.

Enzo Maresca is keen to offload several names with Veiga among those deemed surplus to requirements.
