Bayern Munich chief personnel executive Max Eberl has commented on Paul Wanner’s impending transfer to PSV Eindhoven. As the Bundesliga record champions prepare to pocket €15m for the German Austrian attacker, Eberl once again found himself on the defensive when it came to Bayern’s ability to provide chances for players from its youth academy.
Eberl spoke at a Thursday press conference sitting alongside FCB head coach Vincent Kompany. The Bavarian club’s board-member-for-sport offered up words reminiscent of his recent comments on fullback Adam Aznou after Moroccan international asked for and received a transfer to Everton.
Bayern are, in fact, opting for youth as they enter the new season. Eberl was sure to chide Wanner for missing out on a great opportunity to be among the young prospects to receive a chance to earn regular minutes with the German giants.
“It’s a matter of players wanting to improve,” Eberl acerbically noted at the press conference. “[Players who] want to take on challenges. And if one doesn’t believe, then one has to make decisions.
“We want to believe in players,” Eberl continued. “We want to work with players who are keen to become Bayern Munich players. That takes steps. It takes courage. That’s who we want to focus on.”
