The club have confirmed today that the goalkeeper tore a muscle in his right thigh, and he will miss the clash against Heidenheim.
According to a report from Bild, Neuer was no longer on the pitch at the Allianz Arena during the subsequent Christmas party, which included a thank-you round in front of the fans.
He will definitely miss the next clash, but it is not clear how long he will be out.
In his absence, Jonas Urbig is likely to replace him. Urbig has made two starts in the Bundesliga and is seen as a long-term replacement for Neuer.
Christian Falk says that the timing of the injury should not hurt Bayern. The injury does not appear to be serious, and Neuer should be able to use the winter break to regain his full fitness.
Neuer should be fit in the New Year. Vincent Kompany kept his training schedule start in January 3rd. The Bundesliga season resumes on January 11, and the German champions will take on Wolfsburg. Barring any fresh setback, Neuer should be fit by that time.
Neuer has a contract at Bayern until the end of the season.
At the moment, Bayern have not offered him a contract extension, and it is unclear whether he will continue after the season ends.
Neuer has not hinted that he wants to retire at the end of the season, so there is a high chance that he could be given a new contract.
