Bayern Munich strengthened the attack in the summer by signing Michael Olise, but they failed to trim this area of the squad to make way for new faces. The Bavarian club will likely make changes next summer as the futures of Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman remain uncertain.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz remains the top target for Bayern to strengthen the attack next summer. However, they may end up signing more than one forward. Since Wirtz will take up most of the budget, Die Roten will have to make wise moves to sign more attacking players.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern are keenly following Lille forward Jonathan David. Max Eberl is a big admirer of David, who has been a prolific goalscorer for Lille over the past few seasons.
The Canadian forward will be available on a free transfer next summer. Die Roten can hold talks with him over a summer deal in January. David (24) is yet to enter the peak years of his career, making him a suitable acquisition to the squad from a long-term perspective.
It is not the first time David has been linked with Bayern. The Bavarian club has been keeping a close eye on him during the last couple of games. He has scored 65 goals for Lille over the last three years, including 13 in 18 games in the ongoing campaign. It does look like David will run down his contract to take the next step in his career. Lille has largely used David as a striker, but the Canadian can also play on either flank. He can also play behind the striker. Die Roten will cover several bases in the attack by signing David in the summer.
Harry Kane has been in fine form for Bayern over the last 18 months, but Bayern have already started looking at long-term plans for the number nine position. David can initially share the workload with Kane in the number nine position and eventually replace him in the long run.
Several exciting attacking players across Europe will be on the market in the summer. Die Roten cannot sign all of them. The Bavarian club can afford to sign only one if they go all out for Wirtz. In such a scenario, signing David will be a smart move from Bayern. Rekordmeister need to move swiftly since several clubs will be in the race to sign David on a free transfer in the summer.
