Bayern Munich have enquired about signing Lyon winger Malick Fofana as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
The German giants are looking to recruit a new winger this summer, and Diaz is top of their wishlist.
Despite getting the green light from the Colombian, Bayern have had a couple of bids rejected by Liverpool. They plan to make an improved bid as they are keen on sealing the deal.
If the move fails to materialise, the Bavarians will turn their attention towards Fofana, who is one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe.
After moving from Belgian outfit Gent, the 20-year-old was a revelation for Les Gones in an otherwise troubled 2024/25 campaign.
Fofana stole the spotlight with his excellent performances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, racking up 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
His value has skyrocketed, attracting interest from numerous clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.
Lyon have set a price tag in the region of €60 million for their prized asset, who made his debut with the Belgian national team last year.
With Bayern needing an upgrade for Kingsley Coman, Fofana would be an excellent long-term investment with the potential to develop into a top-class player.
The price tag wouldn’t be an issue since Bayern have planned for an outlay in excess of €100m for new signings.
Meanwhile, talks for sensation Nick Woltemade have stalled after Stuttgart rebuffed Bayern’s back-to-back offers.
The Bavarians don’t want to succumb to Stuttgart, who want €65m for Woltemade.
