Bayern Munich Honorary President Uli Hoeneß chided his current top personnel executive on the latest Sunday edition of famed German footballing roundtable Doppelpass. Hoeneß did expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Max Eberl and the rest of the administrative team handled the recent summer transfer window, yet still criticized Eberl for being too “sensitive” in his dealings with front office colleagues at the Bundesliga record champions.
Such talk certainly won’t do much to calm rumors that Bayern are considering parting company with their board-member-for-sport. Moreover, Eberl himself must decide if he’s prepared to endure a public upbraiding from Hoeneß. Though reports strongly suggest that Eberl is not preparing his resignation, the constant interference from the likes of senior figures such as Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge may prove too much to bear for the 51-year-old.
“Such a tough job leads to arguments,” Hoeneß said. “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I often argued like wild animals, but everything was fine behind closed doors. Max is quite sensitive in that regard. It would also be good for Max if he finally understood that this responsibility should be shared. I do believe that he has his problems with this.
“If I may give Max some advice,” Hoeneß continued. “And I’ve already told him this personally, he needs to make sure he does the transfers for the coming season in June and July. If you’re in the middle of it in the last two or three days, it becomes difficult. Making a lot of transfers at the end of August is never sensible. It’s always expensive, and you don’t always get what you want.
“It would be much nicer for us if we didn’t have to intervene at all,” Hoeneß concluded. “But we can’t not intervene when we feel that certain things aren’t working properly. The moment we have the right people in the right positions, Karl-Heinz and I will cease to intervene.“
