Despite an inquiry from Barcelona, it is likely that Harry Kane will sign a new contract with Bayern Munich, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The 32-year-old’s current contract with the Bundesliga champions stands to expire in the summer of 2027.

With Barça in the market for a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski this summer, they had reached out to the England captain’s camp to test the waters and assess the possibility of a transfer this year.

Kane set to stay and renew

However, as per the report, Kane has expressed his desire to remain in Germany with Bayern Munich, despite interest from Barcelona. The Catalan club has been informed that the player is content in Munich.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker enjoyed a dream 2025/26 campaign with the Bavarians, as he scored 61 goals and registered seven assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Back in November, the England captain had stated that it was “very unlikely” that he would leave the Bundesliga club at the end of this season.

Furthermore, Kane had the option to activate a release clause in his contract this summer; however, he chose not to inform Bayern of this decision in January.

In the same month, Bayern Munich sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed that the club was in discussions with Kane regarding a new contract.

Now, everything suggests that the former Spurs man will follow through and pen a new deal with the Bundesliga champions.

What it means for Barcelona

In their inquiry, Barcelona expressed interest in Kane and sought to understand his situation. However, his representatives made it clear that his future would not be addressed until after the World Cup, with his continuity in Bavaria the most likely outcome.

Despite the Catalans making an approach for Kane, their priority target to strengthen the No. 9 position remains Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid.

However, negotiations with Los Rojiblancos are proving to be a major hurdle as they are reluctant to sell the striker despite his public confession of his desire to leave.

With Kane unlikely to be available and talks for Alvarez set to be extremely difficult, Hansi Flick, Deco & co. might be forced to explore other options in the market.
