Following the mid-week disappointment in the Champions League against Inter Milan, Bayern Munich resumed action in the Bundesliga on Saturday with a trip to the Voith-Arena to take on relegation-threatened side FC Heidenheim.

With both teams needing a win for contrasting reasons, Bayern opened the scoring inside the opening fifteen minutes and dominated the hosts in the impressive 4-0 victory. Considering the heartbreak suffered in Italy last Wednesday, the Bavarian faithful can be pleased with how the team bounced back from Champions League elimination.

Courtesy of Saturday’s victory, Bayern opened up a nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with just four rounds of matches remaining. However, Bayer Leverkusen can trim to six points with a victory at St. Pauli on Sunday. Let us look at three stand-out performers for Die Roten from Saturday’s impressive 4-0 victory over Heidenheim.

Joshua Kimmich

On an evening when Bayern Munich gave an excellent team performance, Joshua Kimmich stood out among the many impressive performers. Kimmich bossed the middle of the park and capped off a fine evening by scoring his team’s fourth goal.

Kimmich’s astute sense of positioning and reading of the game were key factors towards Bayern enjoying 68% ball possession on the evening. Throughout the game, Kimmich had 134 touches and completed 95% of his passes (118/124), including 21 into the final third. In the attack, apart from getting his name on the scoresheet, Kimmich also created three chances. He also chipped in defensively when needed with three recoveries. Kimmich looked every bit the part of a midfield general on Saturday.
