Bayern Munich begin their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Auckland City this evening.
The German giants head into the tournament in search of more silverware, having reclaimed the Bundesliga title this season. Vincent Kompany guided the Bavarians back to the summit of German football in his first season at the Allianz Arena.
However, a disappointing exit in Europe raised question marks over their capabilities in knockout football.
Opponents Auckland City are currently third in the New Zealand Northern League. The Navy Blues qualified as the best OFC Men’s Champions League winners of the last four seasons. It’s their 12th Club World Cup participation, more than any other side in the tournament.
Vincent Kompany could look to rotate his side for the opener, given the involvement of several names in the recent Nations League finals. Auckland City are considered outsiders in a tough group that also contains Boca Juniors and Benfica.
Jonathan Tah could debut for Bayern, following his free transfer arrival from Bayer Leverkusen. Leroy Sane, Eric Dier and Thomas Muller are also each involved in the squad despite imminent exits from the Allianz Arena.
Harry Kane is expected to lead the line after scoring in both of England’s fixtures during the recent international break.
Bayern predicted XI: Neuer; Laimer, Tah, Dier, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Gnabry, Muller, Sane; Kane.
Bayern Munich face Auckland City in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday 15th June 2025. Kick-off in the clash is 5pm BST.
In the UK, the game will be televised live on 5 (formerly known as Channel 5) which is free-to-air.
