According to Mundo Deportivo, Leon Goretzka has reached out to FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick regarding a potential transfer this summer.
Goretzka’s current deal at Bayern Munich runs out in the summer, meaning from January 1st, the midfielder is open to talk freely to other clubs without the consent of Bayern.
Goretzka is more than familiar with Flick as he played under him at both Bayern and the Germany national team.
As per the report, Goretzka supposedly explained to Flick that he would be happy to “play under him again”, should the opportunity present itself.
However, the Catalan club will not be prioritising any transfer for Goretzka as they’ll be looking in other positions to strengthen in the winter. That’s not to say that Flick himself would say no to signing a physical defensive midfielder, but it still remains unlikely.
With that, Goretzka’s future still remains up in the air for the time being. One potential stumbling block for potential suitors could be the 30-year-old’s high salary at Bayern.
Should he look elsewhere in Europe, he may have to take a pay cut to find regular playing time. Having said that, there is also the option for a move to Saudi Arabia, however, it’s unclear if the midfielder would be open to such a move, particularly with a World Cup year approaching.
