1. Bayern must be warned

The game provided plenty of stories and excitement. Above all, the two disallowed Bayern goals and the sending-off for an alleged foul on Luis Diaz caused anger among the record champions – and their fans. All the hype can obscure the fact that Leverkusen came close to defeating Bayern

Especially in the first half – when Bayern were still at full strength – the Werkself caused the league leaders real problems. Leverkusen played aggressively, pressed high and made dangerous pinpricks in attack. In stoppage time, coach Kasper Hjulmand’s team even celebrated what was supposed to be the winner, but the goal was disallowed due to a very close offside by Jonas Hofmann

Bayern floundered at times in Leverkusen, something that coach Vincent Kompany’s team are no longer used to. Recently, they have dominated their opponents one after the other, for example in the 6-1 masterclass in Bergamo

Of course, FCB came to the BayArena with a comfortable lead at the top of the table, so it’s easy to switch into administration mode. Nevertheless, Bayern must be warned: on 22 April, Munich will have to go to Leverkusen again, then in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup

The record cup winners are aiming to reach the final again after many years, but Leverkusen have now shown that they can be dangerous for Bayern. A match under floodlights and in all-or-nothing conditions will be a different situation for both teams. However, Leverkusen have shown that the team has the potential to shatter Bayern’s dream of a treble

2. Jackson tears it all down again

The eleven versus eleven between Leverkusen and Bayern was over after 42 minutes when Nicolas Jackson kicked Martin Terrier on the ankle with an open sole and was shown the red card

Referee Christian Dingert was off the mark several times that afternoon and was rightly criticized by Bayern for his handling of the game – but there was no doubt that Jackson was sent off

At that point, and somewhere in midfield, the foul was simply unnecessary. Bayern were outnumbered for more than half the game because of the loan striker’s stupid action

Jackson can probably expect a three-match ban, which is also bitter because it deprives Kompany of a valuable opportunity to rotate in a Bundesliga that has practically already been decided. The coach now has to do without a backup for Harry Kane, who has been struggling of late anyway, thanks to Jackson’s gaffe

The very expensive loan of the Senegalese from Chelsea FC was viewed critically from the outset anyway. In the last two games against Mönchengladbach and in Bergamo , however, Jackson was able to convince and earned a lot of praise. With his extremely unwise red card in Leverkusen, however, the 24-year-old has torn back what he had recently built up with good performances

3. Ulreich becomes a hero

Jackson was clearly the loser of the game, while the big hero was in the Bayern goal. After a long absence, Sven Ulreich started in the FCB goal again because Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig were out through injury. And Ulreich put in an outstanding performance for FCB

The 37-year-old made several strong saves and saved the point for Bayern with a world-class save against Ibrahim Maza in stoppage time. Ulreich was awarded the FCBinside grade 1 and was voted Man of the Match by the users. After the game, he was rightly celebrated by the team and the fans in the stands

Nevertheless, there are new goalkeeping worries for Bayern. After the game, Ulreich explained that he had felt something in his thigh. Towards the end of the game, he was no longer able to take the kicks himself

So ahead of the second leg against Bergamo next Wednesday, Bayern will have to hope that Ulreich is not suffering from something more serious, or that Neuer or Urbig will be able to return against the Italians. In any case, Ulreich proved in Leverkusen that he can be relied upon in emergencies.
