There are many personnel decisions to be made at FC Bayern this summer. One of the names that is increasingly coming into focus is Min-jae Kim. Although the central defender is still part of the defensive rotation, his role is obviously raising questions internally
A look at the Champions League season in particular shows how the hierarchy has developed, with just 314 minutes of action in the top flight making it clear that Vincent Kompany relies on other solutions in the decisive games
For a player who was once signed as a defensive leader, this is a clear signal that although Kim is still part of the squad, he is no longer the first choice when it comes to the really big games
There is also the economic component: with an estimated annual salary of around 16 million euros, the South Korean is one of the top earners in the Munich squad
This combination of high salary and reduced sporting role is becoming a crucial issue, particularly in view of Bayern’s desire to keep an eye on their cost structure. As the portal Fussballdaten reports, there is therefore said to be a willingness to seriously consider offers
Those responsible apparently have a clear idea of when talks could become concrete, with a transfer fee in the region of 35 to 40 million euros being the starting point for negotiations
For comparison: FC Bayern only transferred around €50 million to SSC Napoli for Kim in 2023. Although a sale below this figure would not be ideal, it could still make sense given the salary structure

There is no shortage of potential buyers, with concrete interest from Serie A in particular, including Juventus Turin and the two Milan clubs Inter and AC
Clubs from the Premier League such as Newcastle United and Tottenham are also keeping a close eye on the situation, and even Fenerbahçe have been mentioned as an interested party, although a transfer seems rather unlikely due to the financial circumstances
No decision has been made yet, but the starting position is clear. Min-jae Kim is under contract until 2028, but is no longer an undisputed member of the core of the team. Kim himself does not appear to have any concrete plans to move and feels comfortable at the record champions despite his reserve role
Should a suitable offer be received in the summer, FC Bayern could well be willing to talk – also in order to create scope for new transfers and an optimized salary structure.
