Germany qualified for the 2026 World Cup with an impressive display of attacking fireworks. In the 6-0 win over Slovakia, several FC Bayern players in particular came to the fore and played a decisive role in shaping the Nagelsmann team’s performance.
It was an encouraging evening for German soccer. The DFB team put in one of their best performances under national coach Julian Nagelsmann in a clear 6:0 victory in the Leipzig Arena. Intensive pressing, clear structures in possession and merciless efficiency made the Slovaks desperate from the outset. It was already 4:0 at half-time – the game was decided and participation in the World Cup secured.
Nick Woltemade opened the scoring in the 18th minute, before Serge Gnabry completed the scoring to make it 2-0. Leroy Sané added two more goals before the break, and the jokers Ridle Baku and Assan Ouédraogo ensured the final score in the second half. The Germans‘ body language, enthusiasm and tactical discipline showed that the team understood what was at stake – and proved it impressively.
Joshua Kimmich : The Bayern captain returned from his ankle injury and immediately took on responsibility. As a right-back who moved into the center when in possession, he gave structure to Germany’s play. His pinpoint cross set up the 1-0 in exemplary fashion. A strong performance and an emotional moment when Nagelsmann warmly embraced him on his substitution.
Jonathan Tah : The central defender had little to do defensively, but was much more stable than against Luxembourg. Alongside Nico Schlotterbeck, Tah looked assured, composed and strong in tackles – a solid, error-free performance from the Bayern defender.
Aleksandar Pavlovic : The 21-year-old played a convincing half before Nagelsmann rested him at the break – much to the delight of the Bayern officials. Pavlovic showed vision, composure on the ball and a good feel for the tempo of the game. He was involved in the 2-0 with a clever move in the build-up. A strong performance that further cemented his status in the national team.
Leon Goretzka : After a weak 90 minutes against Luxembourg, the midfielder showed a marked improvement. Although he was not as dominant as his teammates, his pin-pass before Gnabry’s goal to make it 2-0 was a technical highlight. He also forced Dubravka into a strong save later on. An unexcited but clever and effective performance from the much-criticised Bayern professional.
Serge Gnabry: Striking right from the start. His header in the 4th minute was the first chance of the game. Although he missed from a free position in the 25th minute, he made it 2-0 just a few moments later. When Ridle Baku made it 5-0, he showed great vision and set up the Leipzig player superbly. Gnabry looked eager to play, active and hungry for goals – a strong evening from the winger.
