FC Bayern has recently made it unmistakably clear that several players no longer fit into the club’s sporting plans. Ahead of the friendly against Jeju SK, head coach Vincent Kompany has now also commented on the situation of the players slated for transfer—and in doing so, has expressly supported the club leadership’s approach.

Sports director Max Eberl had recently publicly identified João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza as the players the club hopes to part ways with this summer, if possible. Kompany has now made it clear that, in his view, this transparency is the right approach.

“I think it’s a positive thing that the club communicates clearly with the players. As a player, that’s what I would have wanted back then,” the Bayern coach explained at the press conference in South Korea.

The Belgian made it clear that there is agreement between the coaching staff and club management. “The club has issued a clear statement; we’re all on the same page.”

For Kompany, honesty in dealing with the players is a crucial factor. Whoever makes decisions must also communicate them openly.

Despite the public transfer announcements, Kompany emphasized that the players in question remain full participants in training. “But the most important thing is that we treat them with respect. So, of course, we’ll continue to work with them as usual.”

In the coach’s view, how the situation develops now depends primarily on how the rest of the transfer window unfolds.

“When you make decisions, you have to communicate them clearly. Until the transfer window closes, our position is clear—and after that, as with everything in life, we’ll have to take it from there.”

For himself, Kompany sees his priorities as clearly defined anyway. “My job is to coach the team and prepare the team as well as possible for the season.”

With this, the Bayern coach once again emphasizes that on-field preparation takes precedence over any potential transfer activity—even if further departures are still expected before the transfer window closes.
