Bild reports that Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is considering taking Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig to the World Cup as his third or fourth-choice option.
With Manuel Neuer sidelined at points this season, Urbig has enjoyed increased minutes and is set for his 12th outing of the campaign against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Bayern are preparing the 22-year-old as Neuer’s eventual successor, and he could become an important figure for the national team in the future.
His case is strengthened by evidence that he can handle pressure at club level, and by his acceptance of a back-up role without complaint.
In November, Nagelsmann’s goalkeeping pool featured Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen and Noah Atubolu.
