After Aston Villa took the lead, Paris Saint-Germain quickly responded with a brilliant equalizer. Desire Doue took a shot from the edge of the box that left Emiliano Martínez with no chance, as the ball smashed off the crossbar and into the net.

Nuno Mendes played the ball out wide to Doue, who cut inside onto his right foot and unleashed a precise strike to level the score at 1-1. After the Frenchman scored that screamer, the question is, could Martínez have done more to stop that shot?

On the BBC, two pundits disagree on whether the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner could’ve done more to prevent that shot from going in. All Martínez did was watch it go in, as it looked like no outstretched hand would have saved it.

Here’s what BBC pundit and former Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock said regarding that Doue goal.

“When you see Desire Doue’s equaliser again, you see what a great strike it was. At first glance, I thought Emiliano Martinez could do a bit better there but you watch the replays and you realise he is just not getting that.”

Meanwhile, former English goalkeeper Paul Robinson disagrees and believes the Aston Villa shot-stopper could’ve done more. Here’s what he said:

“I think he could have had a go. He didn’t give himself the chance of saving it.”
