Interesting to read through these BBC Sport comments, following on from Newcastle United winning 1-0 against Wolves.

The comments from neutrals especially telling…

A lot of it different to what Newcastle United fans had come to expect from the BBC Sport ‘neutrals’.

The BBC Sport comments from neutrals in the past had been overwhelmingly a catalogue of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.

Particularly stuff about the Newcastle United owners and the media-inspired pile-ons that NUFC fans have become used to, when blamed for who now owns their club.

On this occasion the politics entirely absent, concentrating instead on matters on the pitch, especially a certain new striker signing…

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, Wolves fans and the odd Newcastle supporter also contributing:

‘Based just off his debut alone looks like Woltemade is made for the PL. He will do well at Newcastle.’

‘He’s already agreed to join Liverpool next season. Little Newcastle are just a stop gap.’

‘They will need them because they didn’t appear to notice the Isak is a bit of a “sick note”.’

‘Too early for them to tap him up. They do that when he scores against them then tell the media and every other outlet while sitting back watching him get unsettled, get VVD to tap him up a bit more teaching him how to throw toys out the pram etc & showing him how to elbow properly’

‘He’s probably already had a word with Wirtz to let the Pool know he’s available.

That’s how it works, when you make the step up you’ll understand how it works.’

‘Why are Liverpool fans always so sour on here?’

‘Toon will do well without Alexander Isak as the new boy looks pretty real.

Newcastle and Wolte have it made.’

‘Well done Newcastle.

It’s what you need and deserve.’

‘I’m not entirely sure how an elbow to the head (on Barnes) when you’re last man in defence isn’t a straight red. VAR a shambles again.’

‘Nice to see him get a goal on his debut. With better finishing Newcastle would have banged a few more in. It will start to click for the Toon as the games go on. Wolves look like they could be in trouble this season. They need Strand Larsen fit and firing asap.’

‘You’re not that good and Barca will put 5 past you.’

‘Nufc will always be fine with or without anyone. Fans are tru!!!!’

‘Woltemade great but MOTM was Tonali by a mile.’

‘Nice from a Bundesliga standpoint that Nick Woltemande is coming up with a match-winning performance and for Newcastle.’

‘Newcastle didn’t exactly play Wolves off the park, AND SPENT HOW MUCH’

‘Twice as many shots, more possession, more than double the corners, hit the post and Barnes had a forearm to the face without even a free kick.

Newcastle let Wolves have the ball too much last 20 minutes but if you think Newcastle didn’t easily deserve the points you clearly didn’t watch the game.’

‘Woltemade looks a great signing for Newcastle.’

‘If Robbie Savage and Henning Wehn had a love child…’

‘Anthony Gordon and Rudi Voller’

‘Albert Einstein and Johnny Depp.’

‘Everyone seems to be missing a basic biological fact by suggesting 2 males can produce a love-child.’

‘Probably because it is a joke.’

‘A win is a win and our new boy proved he’s capable once Eddie gets inside his head he’ll be special.’

‘The new German player for NUFC, seems a top player. Germany produce talented football players. It still seems a good place to buy players from.’

‘After the opening 10 mins Wolves began retreating & losing possession letting Newcastle back in and then a very good goal. The rest the 1st half was all Newcastle. 2nd half Wolves were more solid but failed to create until the subs came on. Last 10 mins was all Wolves but again failed to create much on goal. Overall, a new striker won the day. ‘

‘Delusional geordies once again, oh the new boy is the best thing since ant & dec, who needs Isak blah blah, Christ you beat the worst team in the division by one goal at home, Sunderland are a shoe in to finish above you’

‘I think you are the one who is delusional if you think Sunderland will finish above Newcastle United.’

‘Loved the comments of people saying Woltemade was unknown etc. Anyone who’s seen him knows he can be one of the very top strikers in the world, possibly to rival the likes of haaland and mbappe.

Certainly has a much higher ceiling than sesko, ekitike, gykores and isak.’

‘He needs a higher ceiling.’

‘Newcastle had all the possession but still only managed one goal. Not a great game to watch really. Barcelona will be a real test.

Though how Wolves ended the game with 11 players is a mystery. Lenient ref.’

‘Don’t know why people are dissing Wolves. Very good side, albeit very dirty, Newcastle did very well and could have won by more…’

‘Absolute rubbish!!! Kavanagh gave Newcastle every decision he possibly could but then he would cos the PL can’t wait to get rid of them…be different Thursday when the big boys come and Tonali, Tripper, and Goulash, can’t con them with their constant diving cos they’ll be looking after Barca.’

‘Win, clean sheet, debutant goal from some canny CF play off a lad who cannot heed the baaal the experts said. A sprinkling of game management equals Good afternoons work from the toon. On we go.’

‘plenty there from woltemade for Eddie to work with.’
