Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.

Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Sunday’s match.

Facing Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park in a 2pm kick-off.

The Newcastle United players knowing how massive this will be if they can follow up that dominant 4-0 Champions League display in Brussels, with a victory in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United now seven weeks into the new season.

Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 2 October 2025:

“Newcastle scored four goals in Belgium in midweek – the same number as they have managed in their first six league games.

“Eddie Howe’s side are the joint lowest scorers in the Premier League, along with Villa and Wolves, so getting a big win like that will be important for them.

“They have lost twice at home already, but that was to Arsenal and Liverpool, and on both occasions to late goals.

“Yes, the Gunners were the better team on Sunday but Newcastle had lots of chances against Liverpool so they can definitely feel a bit hard done by.

“I am expecting them to get more chances here, because I think this game will be really open with both teams going for it.

“I am going to go with Newcastle to be wearing their shooting boots again, and keep Ange Postecoglou waiting for his first Premier League win.

“Prediction: Newcastle 3 Nottingham Forest 1”

I think that is a pretty fair overview from the BBC Sport pundit.

Chris Sutton on the money this time.

Newcastle United have lost three of their nine games so far, however, they were by a single goal margin against Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal. The two Premier League defeats coming deep in added time.

As we all know, Eddie Howe has had to face countless negative factors in recent months. A summer transfer window that ended with a healthy outcome for Newcastle United in terms of recruitment BUT in the short-term, not great for early season preparations and player availability for matches.

Injuries, suspensions and concussions have then piled in on top of all that. However, with Wissa and Ramsey hopefully back after the October internationals and Livramento now thought to be able to return within two months rather than a season-ending injury, things look to be coming together for Eddie Howe.

This feels like a very important match for Newcastle United, in terms of sending them into the internationals with a lot of momentum building for then when NUFC return to action in two weeks time with Brighton away.

Nottingham Forest look in disarray and with things hopefully coming together in terms of attacking threat at NUFC, Eddie Howe’s side can take advantage on Sunday.
