SV Werder finished off the transfer window with another new arrival, having secured a loan deal with Al-Qadsiah for Cameron Puertas. The Swiss-born Spaniard spoke to journalists in a press conference on Thursday about...
...having to wait before being announced: “The most important thing for me was just signing. The agreement around announcing it was between the two clubs. I’m happy that I’ve been able to get out onto the training pitch with my new teammates. Of course, it’s not been easy being stuck in a hotel since Saturday, but I’m pleased I can now finally get started.
...his knowledge of the Bundesliga: “Being Swiss, I have always followed the Bundesliga and of course already know about Werder. I know Senne from when we played together in Belgium and he spoke to me about Werder and what it’s like here, which made my decision easy”
...the reasoning behind making the move: “In Saudi Arabia, teams are only allowed to have eight senior foreign players. I wanted to come back to Europe, while I also had the 2026 World Cup in the back of my mind, so I am delighted that the move to Werder worked out. I didn’t need to do much thinking once I heard Werder were interested.
...his experiences in Saudi Arabia: “I was surprised by how high a level it was. The top five are really high quality teams. There are players there who have played in the Champions League. It was a great experience for me. I did miss the atmosphere of a full stadium though, which I’m really looking forward to experiencing here at Werder.”
Time to run it back, boys ???????? ...reuniting with Schmidt, Lynen and Boniface: “I went to school with Isaac and we were together at Lausanne as well. It’s really special that I get to play alongside him again and I’m delighted to get to play with Senne and Victor again. They’re all fantastic players. The fact that we’re all back together again is unbelievable and just goes to show how small the world of football can be.”
...his new number: “I was born on 18th August so I chose the number 18. I would have liked the number 23, but Isaac already snapped that one up (laughs).”
...his goals for this season: “It’s difficult to predict the future. I just want start off by putting in good performances. I always give 100%, which will hopefully please the Werder fans. I’m fit and healthy and hope to have a really good season here.”
