Belgium appoint Mark van Bommel as new head coach | OneFootball

The Football Federation of Belgium has confirmed the appointment of Mark van Bommel as the country's new head coach, with the Dutchman signing a contract until June 2028.

The 49-year-old returns to management for the first time since leaving Royal Antwerp at the end of the 2023/24 season.

During his spell in Belgium, Van Bommel guided Antwerp to the league title, Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup, cementing his reputation as one of the country's most successful recent coaches.

Van Bommel has also managed PSV and Wolfsburg, while gaining international experience as an assistant coach with the national teams of Australia and Saudi Arabia.

His first task will be to continue Belgium's rebuilding process following their run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Spain. He will now look to guide the Red Devils back into contention ahead of Euro 2028.
