Dani Olmo goes down in the box, but in spite of the Spanish players' protests, the referee does not point to the spot.
Big call from Marcelo Bielsa as he takes off veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera at half-time.
The substitution appears to be a direct response to Muslera's first-half error which led to Spain's goal.
To make matters worse for Uruguay, Manuel Ugarte was forced off through injury, mere minutes after Spain's opener.
As things stand, minnows Cabo Verde would advance in second-place and Uruguay would be heading home.

France finish top after dispatching a heavily rotated Norway, while Senegal's thumping win over Iraq throws them right in the picture for qualification as a third place team.
GOAL FRANCE!
France have been quiet in this second-half but they have extended their lead with nearly the last kick of the match, as Désiré Doué was left all alone to head home France's fourth from point-blank range.
It's been a truly sensational second-half from Senegal and they may have fired themselves into the knockout rounds with such a high-scoring win.

Another absolute stunner from Gueye has put Senegal four goals to the good and now in with a major chance of qualifying for the knockouts!
Senegal knew what they needed coming into the day and they've done it in true style.
World Cup drama at it's finest.
While Dembélé has written the headlines today, Kylian Mbappé is also having a superb game as a creator!

The France lead remains two!
PENALTY FOR NORWAY!
Oscar Bobb gets taken down by Theo Hernández in the box and the referee immediately points to the spot! Norway have a chance to cut the lead.

Here is how the French line up with Aurélien Tchouaméni, Maxence Lacroix and Théo Hernandez all coming in!
We will have team news for our two games from Group 1 shortly!
Senegal - possibly Africa's best side - simply must win against Iraq to stay in the competition but the Middle Eastern country can also go through with a big win.
It promises to be a thrilling night as the round of 32 becomes more and more clear.
However, our coverage starts with Group I and, in particular, the mouthwatering clash between France and Norway, who are battling for top spot.
A draw for France will do given their superior goal difference but they will not have manager Didier Deschamps on the touchline, with the two-time World Cup winner back home following the sad passing of his mother.
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland will also face off once again. Both players have gotten off to brilliant starts, scoring four apiece, but who will come out on top in Boston?
It's a similar situation in Group H with European champions Spain looking to seal top spot with a result over Uruguay. Marcelo Bielsa's side must not lose to have a chance of a place in the knockout rounds.
The best story of the summer so far has been Cape Verde, who will definitely qualify with a win over Saudi Arabia and could yet with a third draw.
The Saudis will also go through with a win in one of the tightest groups in the competition.
In Group G, Egypt are all but guaranteed their place in the last 32 having picked up four points from their opening two games but the other three countries all need results.
Will one or two of Belgium, Iran and New Zealand still be in the competition tomorrow?
All 12 teams playing in the coming hours still have something to play for, albeit Iraq need a minor miracle to snatch one of the best eight third-placed spots.
Scottish fans, among others, will be watching nervously as the race goes to the wire.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of today's World Cup action with Group G, H and I all set for their final games.
