Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape, and fresh insight from Ben Jacobs has cast doubt on their pursuit of Morgan Rogers. Despite earlier links, the Merseyside club are currently not leading the race for the highly rated attacker.
According to Jacobs, several Premier League rivals have moved ahead in the battle for Rogers’ signature. Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all described as “the most genuine suitors” at this stage, while Paris Saint-Germain are also pushing strongly from abroad.
Jacobs reported: “🚨 Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG are the most genuine suitors for Morgan Rogers. Liverpool and Bayern not as active as of now. Understand Rogers is just as open to a move abroad as staying in England and has admiration for Luis Enrique.”
This update suggests Liverpool’s involvement has cooled, with other clubs showing greater intent to secure a deal for the 23-year-old.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool are focusing their recruitment on key attacking areas. Wide forwards are understood to be the priority, with the club targeting at least two additions in those positions, and potentially a third versatile option capable of operating centrally.
While Rogers offers flexibility across midfield and attacking roles, Liverpool’s current needs appear more specific. The club are aiming to address pace, directness and depth in wide areas, rather than investing heavily in a multi positional profile.
There remains the possibility that Liverpool could enter the market for a central midfielder, depending on outgoings and squad balance, though that is not the immediate focus.
One of the major considerations in Liverpool’s stance is the expected cost of any deal. Rogers is valued at over £100 million, a figure that would demand a significant portion of the club’s summer budget.
Given the need to strengthen multiple positions, committing such a large sum to a single player may not align with Liverpool’s broader squad building strategy. Resources are likely to be spread across several additions rather than concentrated on one marquee signing.
Rogers himself remains open minded about his next move. The Aston Villa star is willing to consider both a Premier League switch and opportunities abroad, with reported admiration for PSG manager Luis Enrique adding another layer to the situation.
This flexibility increases competition for his signature and places Liverpool at a disadvantage if they are not prepared to act decisively.
For now, Liverpool’s transfer plans appear clear. While Morgan Rogers remains a player of interest across Europe, the club’s focus lies elsewhere as they prepare for another demanding campaign.
