England will be without Eberechi Eze and Jarell Quansah for the friendlies against Uruguay on Friday and Japan on 31 March at Wembley. The federation announced in a statement that both players are unavailable.

Eze is an Arsenal attacking midfielder with a calf problem, while Quansah is a defender at Bayer Leverkusen. Thomas Tuchel has called up the returning Harvey Barnes and Ben White in their place, adding them to an expanded 35-player list less than three months before the World Cup begins (11 June to 19 July).

Newcastle winger Barnes, 28, has enjoyed a strong season for the Magpies with 14 goals and four assists. He is back nearly six years after his only cap, a 3-0 win over Wales on eight October 2020.

To cover Quansah’s absence, Tuchel and his staff have recalled White. The 28-year-old defender, with four caps, has featured only seven times in the Premier League for Arsenal and returns for the first time since the 2022 World Cup, where he did not play.

Both players rejoin the national set-up after extended spells away from selection.
