Dan Burn making headlines after Newcastle 2 Athletic Bilbao 0.
The big lad from Blyth scoring the opening goal.
This wasn’t just any goal though.
A brilliant set-piece move as Newcastle United did everything right.
Credit as well surely to United’s recently appointed set-piece coach, Martin Mark.
The players carrying out the plan to perfection, as they blocked off the Athletic Bilbao defenders and then it all came down to two men.
Could Kieran Trippier put the delivery in the right spot. A massive tick.
Could Dan Burn meet that delivery just right. An even more massive tick.
The ball delivered beyond and behind the Athletic Bilbao defence and Dan Burn making the perfect run to get around the back.
Then his Bend it like Burn header was sensational.
The best headed goal Dan Burn has ever scored, well, at least since 16 March 2025.
In truth, I think this is an even better header from Dan Burn than the one against Liverpool at Wembley. Maybe not as important as that goal, but there again, who knows where these latest three Champions League points might help lead us…
What I do know is that I simply can’t stop watching (see below) Wednesday night’s Dan Burn headed goal, just watch it below from all the different angles. Beautiful.
I especially love the reaction of Unai Simon, the Spain and Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper simply in stunned disbelief.
The reaction of Dan Burn?
“It was a good header.”
It sums him up, what a player and what a character, what a scorer of great headed goals.
Dan Burn on his goal, when speaking to TNT Sports:
“I have been due one for a while.
“When the ball came in, I decided I was going to head it as hard as I could.
“Luckily it went in the far corner, so I was happy with it.
“We’d been working on it.
“We knew we’d have a bit of space around the back.
“It was a good header.”
Dan Burn on the 2-0 victory:
“It’s huge.
“We wanted to respond from the weekend’s performance.
“I thought we played well, controlled large parts of the game.
