Six Benfica members have launched legal action to annul the Extraordinary General Assembly resolution of 3 January 2026 that approved the Benfica District project, according to Glorioso 1904.

Jurists Gonçalo Almeida Ribeiro, João Ferreira Leite, Pedro Cardigos, Cristina Santos Silva, João Marecos and Márcia Vala contest the conduct of the club’s Mesa da Assembleia Geral, MAG, chaired by José Pereira da Costa. They argue the assembly’s procedures breached rules set out in the statutes.

The meeting in question focused on Benfica District and passed with 59.24% of votes cast. Ribeiro and Ferreira Leite previously stood for the MAG presidency in the last Benfica elections, on the slates of Noronha Lopes and Movimento Servir o Benfica respectively.

Three weeks before the gathering, a letter with 12 questions on the legality of the participation and voting model was sent to the MAG president. Those requests for clarification did not receive a reply.

The action also challenges the use of electronic ballot boxes and a mobile app for voting, arguing the system lacked adequate guarantees over reliability and control of the exercise of voting rights.
