Marco Silva has most of his Benfica backroom team in place, and his official unveiling will not take place before Real Madrid’s elections on Sunday.
According to Glorioso 1904, assistant Gonçalo Santos and fitness coach Gonçalo Pedro will join him in the move to the Luz.
Goalkeeping coach Fernando Ferreira and performance manager Bruno Mendes are also set to be involved, both having previously worked at the Seixal training base and now returning to the project.
Some roles remain unresolved. Greek assistant Antonis Lemonakis is not yet confirmed, and Ricardo Rocha’s situation is still open, the former defender is currently part of José Mourinho’s staff but has been put forward by Benfica to join the new set-up.
Marco Silva is fully guaranteed as Benfica’s next head coach, irrespective of developments involving José Mourinho and Real Madrid. The hierarchy has already taken several strategic decisions to prepare his arrival.
His presentation is expected next week and will not be immediate, as the club plans the contract signing ceremony carefully. Benfica intend to stage an event on the scale of previous unveilings for Bruno Lage and José Mourinho, with media present alongside the Rui Costa-led board, underlining the strategic importance of the appointment.
