Portuguese outlet Record has reported that Benfica have opened negotiations with Real Madrid over a potential summer move for Brahim Diaz.

The Morocco international is facing an uncertain role at Madrid following the arrival of Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono, and Benfica are looking to capitalise.

At 26, Brahim finds himself at a critical point in his career. While Real Madrid value him and are in the process of renewing his contract, there are internal discussions about whether a loan move might better serve his development.

The club want to ensure he continues to progress, especially with the intense competition for places in the squad.

Benfica see Brahim as top quality addition

Benfica see Brahim as their top target following the collapse of a deal for Joao Felix. The Lisbon-based side want to strengthen their squad and believe the Real Madrid man could be a perfect fit.

In fact, reports suggest that both clubs have already held early conversations to explore a potential deal that would suit all parties, most likely in the form of a loan.

However, Benfica aren’t alone in this pursuit. Turkish side Fenerbahce are also keen on Brahim and could offer a tempting challenge.

Additionally, clubs from the Middle East have entered the race, potentially complicating matters further for the Portuguese side.

Brahim wants to stay

Despite the interest, Brahim’s stance is firm that he wants to stay at Real Madrid, extend his contract, and prove himself among the club’s elite talents.

It is to be noted that Benfica are no strangers to dealing with Madrid this summer. They sold Carreras to the Spanish giants for €50 million and brought in Rafael Obrador for €5 million.

Now, with another possible deal on the table, the clubs could be set for more business before the window closes.

Still, for now, the final decision lies with both Brahim and Real Madrid. Whether the 26-year-old stays to fight for his place or takes on a new challenge elsewhere remains to be seen.
