Benfica president Rui Costa has firmly responded to growing speculation linking Alvaro Carreras with a move to Real Madrid.
Despite heavy media buzz suggesting that a deal could be in place after the FIFA Club World Cup, Costa has revealed that no formal offer has been received from the Spanish giants.
Speaking to the media, Rui Costa clarified the current situation surrounding Carreras: “They should make us an offer. None have come so far. If they do, we’ll see what happens.”
His statement puts to rest the idea that negotiations are already underway, confirming that Real Madrid have yet to formally approach Benfica about the promising left-back.
Costa also added that now is not the right time to engage in any transfer talks, especially with Benfica still competing in the Club World Cup.
“Now is not the time, and it won’t be until the tournament and our participation are over. Until then, there’s no need to talk about anything. Carreras is here with us,” he stated.

Despite being at the centre of transfer rumours, Carreras appears unfazed. The defender briefly spoke to MARCA, sharing a calm message.
“Now the important thing is the World Cup. Everything is fine,” he said, making it clear that his full attention is on Benfica’s journey in the tournament.
Reports had previously suggested that Carreras was open to a move to Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup, but Benfica’s unwillingness to negotiate below his release clause blocked the transfer.
With Benfica having already qualified for the Round of 16, any further discussions about Carreras’ future are expected to take place only after the tournament ends.
For now, the 22-year-old remains a key figure in Rui Costa’s plans, with all eyes on the Club World Cup and what lies ahead.
